Jeff Atkinson headshotShare with us your title and give us a glimpse into the responsibilities and impact of your role.

“I’m a National Practice Leader for Harmony [Healthcare]. I’m responsible for managing relationships with strategic accounts across the country, both in the hospital setting, and consulting firms.”

Could you please share a brief overview of your professional journey and expertise, and how you found yourself in this role?

I’ve been in human capital management in a variety of different settings for 15 years starting in 2007. Most of which has been in and around healthcare and revenue cycle services. By education, I have a degree in biology and also hold the CRCR credential from HFMA

I am curious to learn more about Healthcare Consulting. For those who are not familiar, could you give us an overview of what Healthcare Consulting entails? Additionally, what does Harmony Healthcare do to stay ahead of industry offerings?

Healthcare consulting is leveraging subject matter expertise across multi-disciplinary functions to solve client challenges in creative and new ways based on experience leveraged from best practices and how others are attacking challenges through a combination of people process and technology. To stay ahead, we [Harmony Healthcare] are working with our team of subject matter experts across the payor/provider spectrum to develop solutions to complex problems.  In particular, we have exciting new offerings in Dynamic Case Management and Ambulatory CDI/HCC capture.

How does Harmony Healthcare help clients handle their challenges surrounding working remotely across the geographic barriers and time zones?

This is something that Harmony Healthcare has done since well before the pandemic normalized remote work. Our team of consultants has largely been working remotely for 10+ years primarily in the mid-revenue cycle but certainly expanding. Even in certain aspects of case management, particularly utilization review, we are able to leverage talent not only domestically but also internationally to help keep the patient throughout the process moving effectively 24/7. I think with the pandemic it changed people’s perspective of when and where

What brought you to the Healthcare Information and management Systems Society (HIMSS) Global Conference and what did you gain specifically?

Harmony Healthcare has attended HIMMS for the last 5 years. It’s a great opportunity for us to connect with a wide range of industry partners. Not limited to hospitals and health systems directly but the ecosystem of vendors that support them. It’s a great place for us to connect with healthcare leaders in the industry-technology providers, consulting firms.

My biggest takeaway from HIMSS was the proliferation of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the healthcare space. I saw presentations on everything from certain functions of case management, to interoperability focused around AI solutions on those spaces. I think nearly every vendor had {has} some sort of AI angle of offering so it will be interesting to see how that will integrate into healthcare and help to streamline operations and what human involvement will be in an AI world.
