Meet Our Payroll Administrator: Interview with Harmony Healthcare’s Golden Pitts

What is the most meaningful and valuable praise you’ve received in the workplace?

I received an unsung hero award here at Harmony. It made me feel good that I was appreciated for the work that I have done. It’s not that I look for praise, but I know that I wouldn’t be here if I weren’t doing a decent job. It truly was a commendable and meaningful award.

What does true leadership mean to you?

True leadership is when you put your all into making sure that everyone is on the same page, that everyone understands the situation and processes that are to take place.  No one should feel that you aren’t approachable if they don’t understand what’s expected of them. A true leader helps people feel comfortable enough to come by with questions and suggestions.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled and why?

That’s easy: the Grand Canyon to look at God’s creation. It’s one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen!

Tell us about your very first concert experience.

My first concert experience wasn’t the best. Everyone was going to see Rick James. My dad was pretty strict on me and told me I wasn’t going before I could even ask. My brothers planned to go even though they didn’t have money. I was only 15 years old, but I had money to go. They told me they would sneak me out if I paid their way in. They fixed my bed with pillows and covered them to look like I was in bed when my dad checked in on us at night. They put the ladder up to my window, and I climbed down.

Everything seemed to go planned, but before I could really start enjoying myself at the concert, I felt a strong grip on my shoulder. I looked up and there was my dad dressed in his police uniform. Needless to say, the night didn’t end very well.

What are 2 of your pet peeves and why?

My biggest pet peeve is when people tell me that they’re going to do something and then don’t do it. It’s especially irritating when they don’t inform me that they didn’t follow through and I have to find out through someone else.

I’d have to say another pet peeve is when people are mean to others for no reason.

What’s your favorite movie quote and why?

I really don’t have a favorite movie quote, but one of my favorite sayings is this: “The biggest communication problem is that we don’t listen to understand. Instead, we listen to reply.”

I think it’s so important to listen first to get an understanding of what the problem is and then evaluate it so you can answer respectfully and responsibly for resolution.
