Employee Spotlight with JJ Downum

JJ Downum

Meet One of Our Account Executives: Interview with Harmony Healthcare’s JJ Downum

What’s on your wish list for the next 5 years?

What is your favorite memory from your childhood or adolescence?

Baseball. I learned the game from my dad and grandpa. I played with my best friends from little league through college. A lot of the best times I had growing up start with baseball or a friendship that started with the game.

What do you see for the future of the healthcare industry in the coming year?

More technology! From innovative treatments to better compliance and billing practices, technology is associated in every aspect of healthcare.

Hospitals and health systems that have a consolidated technological platform allow their employees to document and communicate better. This leads to better patient care and population health, and that’s the name of the game.

Describe what helps you thrive in the workplace.

I’d have to say the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues.  I lean on a lot a people throughout the workweek here at Harmony for insight, advice, industry knowledge, etc. Being able to share ideas and help clients because of those relationships is very empowering.

Create the soundtrack to your life in 5 songs. What makes each song representative of your journey?

You said an 8-song soundtrack, right?

Tell us about one lesson you’ve learned in the past month.

Completely unrelated to work and I’m sure a lot of people will disagree, but I have learned that I will always be a Jameis Winston believer. #GoBucs

What is the most important part of your morning routine to help you kick start the day?

Either a podcast or music depending on the day. I’m not really a morning person, so I typically go with something funny for a podcast or upbeat music to get the energy flowing.

What’s your favorite movie quote and why?

“So I jump ship in Hong Kong and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I’m a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald… striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one – big hitter, the Lama – long, into a 10,000 foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? ‘Gunga galunga… gunga, gunga-lagunga.’ So we finish the 18th, and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, ‘Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.’ And he says, ‘Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.’ So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.”

– Carl Spackler from Caddyshack

Hilarious and completely improvised.
