Harmony Healthcare provides healthcare organizations with the talent and resources needed to succeed today as well as the foresight to prepare for tomorrow’s challenges.

In this employee spotlight, we’re excited to highlight Becky Jacobsen, Principal Consultant, Denials Prevention and Recovery Solutions. We spoke with Becky to share her advice for clients and denials prevention and recovery professionals as well as insights from her career journey.

1. Tell us about your journey in healthcare?

I began my career in healthcare while pursuing my nursing degree, working in both Ophthalmology and Optometry to help fund my education. After earning my degree, I transitioned into Trauma and Emergency Department nursing, where I discovered a strong passion for accurate and thorough documentation—an interest that ultimately led me to a career in healthcare consulting.

Over the years, I expanded my expertise across multiple facets of the healthcare industry, including collections, patient care, and compliance. In 2011, after gaining a comprehensive understanding of the full revenue cycle, I began consulting professionally. I take great pride in fostering long-term client relationships and maintaining exceptional satisfaction and retention rates.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I pursued and obtained my Juris Doctorate, further broadening my understanding of healthcare from a legal perspective. Today, as part of the Harmony Healthcare Solutions team, I oversee and participate in audits, educational initiatives, acquisition reviews, and compliance assessments—continuing to bridge clinical, operational, and legal insights to support organizational excellence.

2. What are you most proud of about your journey with Harmony Healthcare?

I take great pride in building strong, trusted relationships with executive teams and healthcare providers. My focus is on delivering real-time, practical solutions that protect revenue streams while ensuring ongoing compliance. In addition to client success, I’m deeply committed to mentoring others—supporting professional development, fostering career growth, and helping individuals achieve long-term success in the healthcare industry.

3. What is the biggest takeaway you’ve gained from your career thus far?

My biggest takeaway from my career thus far is the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. Healthcare is constantly evolving—clinically, operationally, and legally—and staying effective means being willing to grow, pivot, and approach challenges with curiosity and integrity.

4. What are the top Denials Prevention and Recovery trends that you think people in the industry need to be prepared for?

Automation, predictive analytics, and AI are now influencing how denials are both generated and prevented. People in the industry need to evaluate how their organization can adopt tools to not only respond to denials but also prevent them proactively to ensure they have visibility into payer rules, analyze denial patterns, and automate front-end edits to obtain continuous improvement.

5. What advice would you give professionals in the Denials Prevention and Recovery industry?

Professionals in the industry need to evaluate how their organization can adopt tools to not only respond to denials but also prevent them proactively to ensure they have visibility into payer rules, analyze denial patterns, and automate front-end edits to obtain continuous improvement. Organizations need to shift from reactive appeals to proactive prevention and root-cause management.

6. Tell us a little about Becky outside of your professional life. How do you spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m very active outdoors and enjoy spending time in nature—whether fishing, hunting, or simply appreciating the outdoors. My children and grandchildren keep me grounded and remind me of what truly matters, providing balance and perspective in both my personal and professional life. My spouse and I have a home on Washington Island, Wisconsin where nature is truly at its best.

7. What’s a fun fact about Becky that most people don’t know?

Most people are surprised to learn that I’ve spent just as much time in the great outdoors as I have in hospitals and boardrooms.  I’m also very involved in the fight against Human Trafficking and was the president of a group in Wisconsin named BAT (Biker’s Against Trafficking).

8. Anything else you’d like to say, advice to give, etc?

Remaining vigilant and up to date with the rapid changes in the healthcare environment is critical to ensuring compliance, innovation, and excellence in patient care.

Whether you’re looking to enhance your organization’s denials and recovery operations or are looking for a new role, Harmony Healthcare can help. Reach out to us to see how we can support you.
